Job Description:
Produce Clerks are responsible for the proper stocking and rotation of merchandise in the produce department, including trimming, watering, and merchandising of products to ensure fresh, high quality offerings.
Other duties include proper inventory control to maximize product freshness and availability; answer questions from customers about produce in a friendly and helpful manner by recommending additional items to customers.
Duties:
- Receives, inspects, and logs products for accuracy of shipment, temperature, and quality.
- Properly wraps, scales and label products.
- Examines the rotation of all Produce products paying particular attention to expired stock and properly discarding outdated or spoiled items pursuant Nijiya Market standards.
- Stocks include presentation of product, facing, filling, and organization of all product items as well as ensuring tag and pricing accuracy.
- Ensures cleanliness of Produce department, storage area, and work area for safety; includes cleaning of shelves and products, keeping floors free of spills or water removing hazardous debris from floor and sweeping.
- Clean and sanitizes work area including tables, floor, scales, cases, cooler…
- Participates in pre-inventory preparation; including back stocks and assuring tags match products.
- Walks department regularly to ensure an organized, sanitary, and overall clean appearance at all times.
- Follow all safety practices and procedures.
- Other related duties assigned.

Physical and other requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school education or equivalent combination of education preferred.
- Previous Produce experience in a retail grocery industry helpful, but not required.
- Good customer service skills are required.
- Basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
- Demonstrate ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements of the job.
- Must gain an understanding of proper handling, preparation, seasonality, and appropriate shelf life of products.
- Complete understanding of all safety requirements and company safety policies.
- Continuous walking or standing for long periods.
- Ability to bend, kneel, stands, push/pull carts and operate pallet jack for extended periods of time.
- Bend and stoop to grasp objects and climb ladders. Bend and twist neck and waist, reach above and below shoulders and squat.
- Must be able to frequently lift 35lbs and occasionally lift up to 60lbs.
- Good vision is required for using sharp knives, box cutting, and other cutting equipment.
- Ability to work effectively in a cool temperature, including freezer areas when needed.
